PORTLAND NEW CHURCH               [Swedenborgian]

 The Apple Tree
Why an Apple Tree?

The Newsletter of the Portland New Church has had various names.  Most often, "The Apple Seed."  At times it has been known as "The Apple Core."  An apple tree covers all of it:  the core, the seeds, the branches, the fruit.  It provides many options for exploring the apple in all of its forms.

Do you like the name?  Let us know.

Nina sasser edit

Nina Sasser did an outstanding job playing the role of Hope in Anything Goes at Deering High School last night.  The entire cast was extremely talended and well-rehearsed.

   Nina Sasser

Nina did a great job of acting, singing, and dancing.  Could all those Christmas Eves performing as "Mary" and singing carols with her Dad at church have helped prepare her?  Well, they certainly didn't hurt!  In her spare time, Nina is President of the Swedenborgian Church Youth League.

Ms. Sasser already has her plane ticket for Seattle, where she will spend the Convention week with the SCYL.

Living Life to Lose It  [Did Johnny A. do this?]

worshipspaceeditFor this Sunday -- March 29th -- we will have a short homily and discussion on the question of what it means to "turn over" one's life in such a way as to lose it.  What does Swedenborg say about the cruxifiction of Jesus?

Have you visited our new web site yet?  If so, it is time for ANOTHER visit! New things are added every week. Visit our new Prayer Request section and check out the on-line pledge form.
Cam Meets with C.A.M.

CamCameron Linen, who joined our church last year, is preparing for ordination this summer in Seattle.  One of the final steps involves a meeting with the Committee on Admission to Ministry; known as C.A.M.

This week, most of the committee will be in town, meeting at the PNC.  Our visitors will include Chris Laitner [President of the denomination], Andy Stinson [Chair of the Council of Ministers], Ken Turley [Fryeburg minister and on CAM], and Nadine Cotton [Florida minister and on CAM.].  Cameron will be visiting with them to discuss his final plans for ministry.

Cam will meet with C.A.M.!

Good Luck, Cam!  We know you will do great. Don't forget to mention how much we  love those crisp Maine apples around here!
Have You Pledged Yet? see the appletree at the church; every pledge is another apple!

We have only 7 more pledges to go to meet our 2009 goal of 15 pledges!

I hope to see you in church tomorrow, as we grapple with some of the most complicated questions in mystical Christianity.

Sincerely,

Rev. Wilma Wake
